I just listened to the first harriet. Lets see how this one sounds. The Vox are louder :) (Smile) Good to see that you took everyone's suggestion. The vox are nice, there was no need to hide them :) (Smile) I like the high bell-like instrument. It's a nice touch. Hmmm.. nothing is new so nothing new to say :) (Smile) Again, excellent production. Looks like less dead air at the end :) (Smile)

I remember listening to the original version of this and this is a better mix than the other. I really like the sounds that complement the guitar in this. The vocal are really good. They could still have been a little more prominent if you ask me and do sound a little distant. Still they do have a certain charm that way... so hell perhaps they are good as they aleady are.

just thought I'd move the comments from the previous version here, since I'd like to free up space and leave the newer mix up, anyway, carry on.

The recording is good (sounds great for a home recording) but the level on the vocals are kinda low.

that's what my roomate says. I'm a bass player by lack of whatever else to call myself and this was my first real attempt, anyway, still learning the machinery,I think my mistake was monitering while recording vocs, mic placement and not enough gain, but then again, I like those old REM songs when Michael Stipe was mysterious.

great production. vocals are too low, but that seems to be what everyone does at first, (when starting out recording)... go ahead and turn them up until it sounds just a little too loud to you, then it'll be about right. Great song though... that main riff really drives it along nicely...

First off: I dig the mix, cuz it's all fucked up. The soft vocals really work, I think. The percussion is all sorts of cool.

I like that driving bass riff, though, maybe it's not quite bassy enough. Not sure about that.

This is a very cool song. There's something more weird about the vocals than the fact that they're quiet. They're also somehow sounding like they have a ton of space, like they're all... I don't know. The whole mix has a lot of space, everything works well. Nice.

great percussion, and I must agree^^^

in the respect that this is fun to lsiten to because it is so messed up, buuuuut, that's because we all hear the same mixing everywhere, and I think that the super dramatic differences in all the instruments is cool, it expresses itself well.

I think that the vocals could benefit a lot with a little more movement, or melody, or hammy goodness.

and don't be afraid to make the vocals the star of the song, they will hold their own.

this has some kind of buzzing incredibleness that got into my head. the percussion is great.. and you have a really nice voice. vocal too low?? who knows. this is just plain good!

damn fine tune. I especially loved the guitar and the vibe created by the instruments mish-mashed together.

I can relate to the topic choice for this track. Been there and lost that special edge with a once good friend.

The production of this track is really great and with the aid of lyrics on your page the vocal still held their own after the first listen. I guess up a slight notch would be cool but I really like the challenge of listening to alternative stuff that doesn't give it too you so easily.

Most self produced mixers always burry their vocals. Because they don't like their voices. So - your options are.

1.) Learn to sing then mix it out front.

2.) Get use to the sound of your voice, and mix the vocals out front.

3.) Do both....... good, bad or ugly. At least you’ll know…… and so will we…. LOL

The mix and tune are pretty decent from what I can tell.... Sounds kind of like "The Clash meets The Talking Heads".

Good Job

Man I like this one alotI agree that the vocals seem to be to far back in the mixYour vocals are very good,so you're not faced with a dilemma.Just bring the vocals more out frontProblem solvedthats all I can say gecause everything otherwise sounds fantastic

Interesting song. It's pointless to say what has been said a million times, but the vox need some volume. Excellent production here. I like to hear when the dmusicians go for a different sound... as you have done. Keep up the awesome work Lots of dead air at the end of the song.

I like this song as a kind of original, alternative (yes why not the clash meets talking heads) tune that carries a joy to experiment with melodic structure. The song is a bit difficult to "get inside" at first I feel, after the bass riff has made its entrance, all the other melodies from guitars have a way of overlapping each other so that I'm thrown a bit side to side, searching for a centre. The bassmelody is very good though, I can sort of sit and listen to that and the vocals throughout the song but on the other hand those guitars are still begging for attention in their seemingly dislocated melodies. Don't get me wrong on that, I like the melodies they play as such, and the "vibe" is very good too.
As the song moves along though, I get more accustomed to the guitars and the moment around 1.47, I believe is what I will think back of when I remember the song. It has a good "build" around that point to to speak. The becoms an unusual but good experience in the end.

An absolutely solid riff. The way you put this together is very cool. I'm hearing a bit of Stone Roses in there simply because the voice is lost in the mix, but some really good songs are like that. And this is a really exceptional song!!!! Yea....bring the vocals up a hair (I'm sure you're tired of hearing that)....Then crank it really loud at your next party.

That bass line is awesome! The song progresses beautifully, I listen to it not thinking on verse chorus, verse, but just a really excellent and well-rounded piece of music. I really like the melody too, but maybe the vocal mix is a little too spacey for such a propulsive song. It would be cool to hear your guitar a little louder too :) (Smile) Excellent song, though Groovin

Nice.... too much reverb and/or delay on the vocals for me. Music kicks ass, at first i kinda liked the music, thought it was pretty groovin and the shakey guitar sounds ticklin my ears was nice. then 00:25 changeup with that perc cowbell/whatever the frig it is was a nice effective touhc with is the best bit about the track for me along with ur vocals at that point... hehe i dunno why, so many good things going on here, but thats my best bit Shrugs I didn't press stop before the end Thumbs Up

I am really like this. Bordering on love it. Clapping

The guitar tone a riffs rip.
Drums rip. I like the triangle though I think it presents a little too prominently.

My only real beef is the verb on the vox. For my taste the vocals are much to verbed-up. Roll back the send a little, and if that is too dry for ya add a touch of delay.

cheers,
T

I gotta disagree with the "too much reverb on the vocals" comments. I think that seems to set the mood of the song whereas if they were more up front, it would be a different song. That bass sounds fucking Great - that's with a capital G.

This reminds me of a bootleg tape. It's a cool song, but the vocals sound far, far away -- it's an odd contrast when the drums sound so close (the percussion is a good mix on my stereo system).

Wow, this is a fantastic new mix.
The percussion during the 'bridge' part with the clave-bell sound really grabs me. The bass and guitars are still really trippy, but it sounds like you were able to get better separation and played with the panning some.
I always enjoy this tune.

Really like the bass line in this song. Got a good drive/groove to it.
The percussion (glass bottles?) sounds good too and provides good contrast.

A little bit too much reverb on the vocals for my taste, but that's a subjective thing.
